The beginning of Blackjack
Blackjack is said to have surfaced in France and circulated around Europe as game known by the name of “Vingt-et-un”, translating to ‘twenty-one’. The first mention of the game dates back to 1400, portrayed by Miguel de Cervantes in a book by the name of Ronconete y Cortadillo, where his main character was caught cheating in the 21 card game.
The Players bet against the Dealer for the better hand of 21, without exceeding (busting). Players are dealt two starting cards (hole cards) faced up where as the Dealer receives one up and one down, they can then begin betting. Betting in Blackjack is easy, but first you will have to understand the terms:
A hand of 21 made up of an Ace and a 10.
Be dealt another card if you haven’t drawn a 21.
To stick with what you have and not keep on betting.
Players can pick Split, which would rid of one of their two hole cards and allow another to be dealt, Stand and Hit follow after.
To be dealt another card and double your bet.
Now that you have the basics, it is necessary to remember the value of each card. Cards between 2 and 10 are as indicated; face cards such as Kings are all valued as 10’s, but Aces can count as either 1 or 11, benefitting the Blackjack player.
Blackjack has become a Casino favourite. Therefore, there are quite a few variants. Pick your favourite below:
In this variant of the game, all the 10’s are removed. This is not good for players in principle, but this variant is accompanied by player-friendly rules. Some of these player-friendly rules stipulate that players will always win on a hand of 21.
Face Up 21–
Face Up 21 is like traditional Blackjack except both the Dealers cards are revealed to the rest of the table, instead of one. This Blackjack variant gives an advantage to the players. Nevertheless, that advantage is counterbalanced by a rule that allows players to double only on card values of 9, 10 and 11.
Players are dealt two hands. They can exchange or switch cards between them to obtain the best hand, or the closest to 21. If one hand holds an Ace and the second a 10, then Players may switch up cards in order make up the best number. This variant was patented in 2009 but it was being used as early as the year 2000.

An old used technique among Blackjack players. Counting Cards, refers to players tracking the faces of the cards. In general, casinos use 6 decks of 52 cards meaning you can keep count of card faces going out and memorise the remainder.
**Hail the Hi-Lo strategy–
Just as in the strategy above, it consists of counting cards. In this variant, player count face cards as follows:
10, Ace and face cards, count as -1.
Between 2 and 6, count as +1.
7, 8 and 9 are represented as 0.
Adding and subtracting, when done correctly, will boost your house edge to .5%, having a better edge over the Casino. Keep in mind the number of Decks being played.
**Play your Poker face–
Emotions endanger a good game. Keeping level headed while playing will most likely lead to less loses as players are less likely to try to make back their money on an impulse. Whether winning or profiting is your goal, you will not be able to achieve either if confusion sets in and you let your emotions take over. Keep your head empty and emotionless.
**The importance of Splitting a Pair–
If a player receives a pair, Aces or eights, it is recommended that they split. A pair of Aces is a difficult hand to win on as the outcome can be either 22 or 13, both bad numbers. Splitting your Pair to break your hand of pairs into two individual hands, allows you to continue hitting, improving your chances of landing a Blackjack.
